I find that when the seasons change and it is cool one day and warm the next I really struggle with what to wear. I have a full closet but I feel as if I have nothing to wear so it is time to cull the clothing and figure out what I do have and do the seasonal change thing.
I see that I have quite a number of cute tops that I have not worn at all over the summer and these are tops that I have worn and loved in the past. Even though I did love them at one time they were looking old and a little too skimpy for my liking these days. I felt they had to go. I found clothing that I could have worn this past summer which was kind of annoying as I was remembering how hard it was to find something to wear this past summer.
I could have been wearing these cute pants all summer if I had been more organized. Grrrr!! Oh and also I did keep the sparkly jeans. That was another pair of jeans I could have been wearing all summer!!
What about all those pants and skirts that don’t fit anymore? The tendency is to avoid them, not try them on and just close that drawer and pretend they are not there. But they are there and they are taking up valuable space that could be used for items of clothing that I do love and I would be able to wear on a daily basis. And when you have clothing that doesn’t fit, how does that clothing make you feel about yourself? It likely just makes you feel bad. Even though this clothing is tucked away somewhere and you might not really think about it, it is clutter.
Our stuff is often about the dream of how things were in the past and how we want things to be now or in the future. Sometimes it is about giving up on that dream, knowing that we are likely not going to fit back into that size 8 and accepting that. Ahh, what a relief to downsize all of those clothes and now I can make an informed decision about what to purchase to fill in my wardrobe for the fall. I see a great pair of new leather boots in my future. What do you see for yourself?
“Our stuff is often about the dream…”
Elegantly and eloquently put.
I often talk to my clients about the benefits of looking in the virtual mirror to learn who they are NOW and how they are living NOW.
And I work at following my own advice.
It gets easier with practice.
Thanks for this post.
