Clearing Clutter Support Group – Week 8

Completion of CCSG

Well, yes, this is the final week (that sure flew by).   This week is somewhat bittersweet, especially with this group as there was such consistent attendance and it was also a nice small group.  Really, every group is special though!!  The last week is when we get to talk about everyone’s progress and success.  And everyone makes progress and everyone is a success!!   Participants are delighted and somewhat surprised at the progress they have made.  And really, the journey has just begun…….

As you may remember from Week 1, we do a pre and post assessment for each eight week group which measures how much clutter is in the home, how much difficulty someone has with acquiring and  how difficult is it to let go.  The results from these questionnaires also show that individuals anxiety around these issues has also been reduced.

I really wanted to include some pretty charts here to show you the scores but it just isn’t meant to be.  WordPress!! Ugh!! Sigh!!

This week is also about looking at alternative sources of enjoyment, coping and creating new comforts in life.  As we know, individuals can get a lot of comfort around shopping, acquiring and moving their stuff around “churning”.  Sentimental possessions also provide some emotional uplift and connection.  So, it is important to think about some other activities that might help to give that same feeling but in a more positive way.   These alternative activities can be a great reward for a job well done and/or are ways to rejuvenate ourselves so that we can continue on with our personal goals.   I really believe that we need a balanced approach to our lives and our work.

This group ended on a positive note with lots of great comments like:

– I have more insight into my problems now

–  I now have the tools to help myself

– I don’t feel so bad

– Acceptance of others and connecting with others who have the same struggles

– I now feel there is hope

The best thing that came out of the group from one participant was “it healed our relationship”  This came from a male talking about his mother.  Yes, we had a mom and son in this group and you never quite know how that could go but in this case it was awesome.

Thank you everyone for following along with us.   It has been an amazing journey.

Coming Up:  I am planning to post some resources/handouts that we use in the groups.  Stay tuned!!
